Episode 4 with Run DMC’s Darryl McDaniel Part 2
Darryl McDaniels… that name may not ring a bell, but like the rest of the world, you probably know him as DMC. The LEGENDARY rap star from RUN DMC.
He’s sold more than 30 million albums.
Thirty. Million.
And he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 with RUN DMC.
“As a kid, RUNDMC were my Beatles. They literally changed the trajectory of my life. Years later I ended up managing the group. It was an inexplainable feeling!” tweeted Jesse Itzler.
Darryl’s remarkable book is called 10 Ways Not to Commit Suicide.
We had an amazing and vulnerable conversation that covered several topics he doesn’t talk about very often. In fact, he has so many good stories that we decided to present this interview in two episodes. In this first episode, we dive into Darryl’s early creative days because his backstory sets up the big shock that he reveals near the end of this episode. This is his first book, but he has been writing rhymes his whole life.
In this episode, Part 2 of the interview, he reveals that while to the world it looked like he had it all–money, fame, power and prestige–on the inside he was battling depression and was consumed with thoughts of suicide.
He busts out some rhymes and he even sings a couple of times.
So sit back and relax. As we get to know one of the world’s top musical icons and learn more about some parts of his life that he doesn’t usually share.
Buckle up!
