Episode 10 - Lisa Cini
On this week’s show, we tread into deep waters and talk about a topic that doesn’t find its way into many conversations.
My guest is the remarkable Lisa Cini who is one of the world’s foremost experts in senior-living design,
and how to make all types of living spaces more friendly and manageable for those who have Alzheimer’s and dementia.
In her book HIVE: The Simple Guide to Multigenerational Living, she shares the rare and poignant experience she had when her family VERY intentionally created a home and life where 4 generations lived AND thrived together…under the same roof; from her own kids, to her 93-year-old grandmother who had Alzheimer’s.
In this episode, we just dip or toes into the water with several of the issues surrounding Alzheimer’s, but this is very personal for me because both of my parents have Alzheimer’s, and I’ll share a little bit about that with you.
Quite frankly, every time I bring it up with a friend or colleague, I find that almost everyone has been touched by Alzheimer’s in some way in their own life—either directly or indirectly—and yet, no one talks about it.
My intention is just to make it easier for people to have this conversation. And perhaps give them a springboard to talk about Alzheimer’s more openly with their own family members or friends.
Lisa is in high-demand—all around the world—to speak about this and related topics. You can see her all the time on news shows, on loads of podcasts, and keynoting on big stages.
In fact, she and I actually met while speaking together on a panel, up on stage, at an entrepreneur’s conference,
and we immediately realized that our missions and values were very aligned.
Lisa shares a ton of wisdom, and at the end of the episode, she gives us 20 VERY practical tips you can implement right NOW—or in the future—to help anyone who has a family member—or a friend—who is suffering from this disease.
I’m honored to share this conversation with you, and I’m super happy to introduce you to my good friend!
